Dental malpractice occurs when a Dentist directly or indirectly causes damage to a patient as a result of negligence. There can be a lot of confusion for patients when it comes to dental malpractice but rest assured, you are just as protected as with doctors.

Direct causes of injury are during a treatment or a procedure. One example is if the dentist pulls out the wrong teeth or too many teeth. Another is dental implant nerve injury. In all of these cases, the negligence of the dentist during an actual procedure that causes physical harm. In some cases the effects will only be known later so do not assume that other causes for a potential injury or side effect.

Indirect causes are when the dentist does not do something. For example, not consulting your medical history prior to a procedure or diagnosis is one. A second example is not diagnosing a disease or even delaying to do so. If you suspect a disease that the doctor has not diagnose, consult a second opinion and then consider a malpractice suit.
